Emergency First Aid Level 3

Course programme

24 Hours over 3 days.

This programme will contain both theory and practical exercises in realistic conditions with extended outdoor training and casualty handling allowing candidates to gain the most from this courses.

Course description

This course is suitable individuals who wish to expand and update their first aid training or for persons who are likely to be organising expeditions or traveling to remote regions in all weather types and conditions and who hold a legal duty of care for first aid provision. This course is also suitable the professional Mountaineer such as MIA and MIC, IML Award holders.

Assessment of participant's skills takes place throughout the duration of the course, and is both in 'written and practical' format.

Course aims

Successful candidates will be able to:

  • assess and prioritise a first aid incident, including multiple casualties
  • triage and  monitor casualty vital signs
  • deal with unconscious casualties
  • airway management skills
  • control bleeding and manage shock
  • deal with & immobilise fractures
  • deal with and immobilise spinal injuries
  • deal with eye injuries
  • monitor casualties condition/s
  • manage, individuals/groups and utilise these persons in a first aid setting
  • use stretchers
  • summon outside help
  • recognise and deal with a wide range of common injuries/symptoms & illness's
  • assist professional services in casualty handovers
  • carryout and document a first aid risk assessment
  • maintain a range of first aid kits for both On-Site and Off-Site uses
  • arrange group first aid equipment suitable for the journey or expedition for extended periods
  • maintain & safely keep, personal medical records in line with data protection

Successful candidates will be awarded a certificate in:

''Emergency First Aid Level 3''

This certificate is valid for 3 years and it is recommended that regular refresher training takes place during that time.
