NAVIGATION COURSES

HGMA deliver three levels of personal navigation training programme's in north Wales.

The Bronze NNAS (Level 1) and Silver NNAS (Level 2) Awards, which are accredited with a certificate and recognised throughout the UK by youth groups and other organisation's as a level of individual competence. These 2 day programme's include assessment of your skills.

We also deliver our own Advanced Navigation (Level 3) 2 day training and assessment programme.

Your own personal experience with navigation will guide you as which level to start at. Please feel free to call us to discuss your training requirements if you need further help and guidance.               

Who are these courses designed for?             

Those with an interest in outdoor activities, particularly hill walking and rambling. You will be able to acquire new navigational skills whilst improving on and consolidating existing ones. Such skills are a vital component of any safe day spent in the British or Irish hills.

Course descriptions

  • Your course will be on rough moorland or open terrain OR if on the level 3; in a high mountain environment.
  • The instructor to student ratio is a maximum of 1:6 this ensures you get the most out of your course.
  • A moderate level of fitness is required for levels 1 and 2 with a higher fitness requirement for level 3
  • All technical aids such as maps & compasses are supplied for levels 1 and 2 but level 3 candidates are expected to provide compass and relevant area maps.
